Job Description: Business Analyst

Position Description

The primary responsibility of this position will be to capture, clean, transform, and analyze data for numerous reporting and analytical purposes.

Data capture activities include acquiring data from client sources or working with data from 3SI’s data warehouse. In many cases non-profit data is incomplete or in unexpected states requiring data exploration (in Excel, SQL, or other tool) for issue identification. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will be required for issue resolution. Skills in Excel or database tools will be required to transform data into more appropriate states for analysis purposes.  Analysis will include simple statistics, grouping and filtering data using pivot charts, generating charts and other summary looks at the data. Data analysis will be designed specifically for each project or work stream but examples range from generating dashboard output for a well-defined analytic tool to creating output charts for client PowerPoint decks to conducting data discovery analysis to begin a deeper statistical inquiry.  The role will also involve basic predictive modeling with team support.

Qualified candidates will be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, be skilled at manipulating data (especially in Excel and SQL), have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), and be able to efficiently and effectively learn new technologies, tools, and quantitative/data approaches.

Base salary: $60,000 – $80,000 range DOE.

This position may be eligible for bonuses. Comprehensive benefits package is included

Position Requirements

  • Capture, clean, and transform data from various sources into appropriate analytical outputs (dashboards, PowerPoint slides, etc.).
  • Research, collect and analyze data and create outputs for various project needs.
  • Analyze, synthesize and communicate clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing, at a non-technical level, complex data and system-related issues.
  • Demonstrate professional experience with data management tools such as Excel, SQL, and Access. Enthusiasm for and willingness to be trained on other software packages such as SQL Server Integration Services (ETL), SQL Server Analysis Services, Tableau, Mekko Graphics, PowerPivot, PowerQuery, etc.
  • Research and troubleshoot data-quality issues, validate result sets, and recommend and implement process and performance improvements.
  • Work efficiently and effectively both autonomously and in small teams in a highly fluid, fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Manage multiple task assignments across multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrate initiative in taking on additional responsibilities when needed.
  • Strong desire and flexibility to learn new technology, tools, subject-matter areas and context.

Candidate Background (Who You Are…….)

  • Proficient. Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) required. Minimum 1 – 2 years of relevant experience required.  3+ years of experience preferred.  Survey / Market research experience also preferred.
  • Performer.  Professional experience using solutions with Excel required. Demonstrated ability to work with more complex, nested formula structures, modeling, and creating and editing VBA macros desired. Professional experience using other tools such as SQL, Mekko Graphics, PowerPoint, Tableau, PowerPivot, SSIS, SSAS, and Access also desired although not required.
